Color Trends for 2013

Lucy Vokac of J.C.Licht reveals the color trends for 2013 from Benjamin Moore.  It is LEMON SORBET 2019-60!  Yellow has touched every palette of the forecast.  The trends are grouped into four categories:
1.  Fresh/COASTAL/Calm/Relaxing – inspiration from the sea with a feeling of tranquility.
2.  Eclectic/Rich/ARTISAN/Grounded – deep, rich, and cozy color which includes Silhoutte (AF-655) as a complex, mature and tailored color.  We chose this one for the new space in our store dedicated to our sourced collection.
3.  Elegant/Cozy/TRADITIONAL/Comforting – updated traditional with sophistication
4.  Crisp/URBANITE/Polished/Chic – contemporary, raw, and edgy contrast and bold color

Can you Name It?

Antique, Vintage, and Collectible.  Oh by the way, RETRO?  Is it confusing?  Antique generally refers to something over 100 years old.  The rest of the terms are vague and mostly overused in marketing products.  We like the word vintage because it means aged – which comes with creativity and wisdom.

OLD is the new NEW – A View on Eco Smart Design

antiques signAntiques are the ultimate in Green.  When it comes to furniture, we would go so far as to say anything that is purchased second-hand is Green.    It is the reuse of an item that makes it count.

  • Antique wooden furniture was created from old-growth forests long ago. No new resources are used in its’ construction. Restoring and reusing pieces are a great way to care for the earth.
  • Off-gassing is the process of releasing the vapors that are the residue of many fine finishes. Antiques were crafted with fewer toxic products, and any off-gassing has long been complete.
  • Manufacturing plants, even the very greenest, distribute impurities into our air, waste systems, and water. New furniture requires the production of finishes, dyes, and sealants; they arrive in retail stores via large fossil-fuel burning vehicles. Carefully chosen antiques save wear and tear on the planet.
  • Even in a contemporary home, the gentle lines of antique furniture can add eye-catching details. Rather than being mass-produced, an antique you bring into your home was likely created in a small workshop by a craftsman who made good use of few resources—thus making your home truly unique.

Our next customer appreciation event should be fun!

Our next customer appreciation event should be fun!  We are going to hear some great ideas on repurposing and reusing armoires and entertainment centers.  Who doesn’t have at least one of these in their home (or garage)?  GraceAnn Simoni is a great local resource for our customers.  We’ve included her bio and some links to additional articles that she has written.

Interior Redesign Industry Specialist

ga2Yours Redesigned is owned and operated by GraceAnn Simoni, Naperville, IL. Certified stager/redesigner since 2001, she is also a REAS-Pro member of the Real Estate Staging Association.  Member in good standing of the National Association of Professional Organizers, NAPO, Association of Design Education (ADE), and is a founding member and serves on the Board of the Midwest Redesign Staging Association (MRSA).

GraceAnn has served on the Board of Directors for two other industry-related organizations. and now volunteers throughout the industry to foster the continued growth.

As a testament to her personal and professional skills, GraceAnn has great respect for people’s homes and the things they value as well as a trained eye on current trends in decorating.

The goal of Yours Redesigned is to help Homeowners open their minds to possibilities present in their own homes. In the Redesign profession, the emphasis is on using existing furniture and accessories.

In the Staging side of her business it is all about ‘Marketing’ a property to get it sold…fast!

GraceAnn listens to the homeowners needs to determine what is truly important to them and their homes, and then works with that in mind.

Too many people think they can’t afford that ‘decorator touch’ because of the expense of replacing everything. GraceAnn’s favorite quote reflects her philosophy:

“An interior should be a reflection of the people who live in it. It should never be only the stamp of a decorator.” Oscar De la Renta

‘One Day Room Makeovers’ and ‘Redesign to Sell’ concepts have been featured on OPRAH, HGTV and in many decorating magazines. HGTV’s long running, Decorating Cents, with Joan Steffend, featured redesign segments by professionals in the industry.
